Section 7720 Solar Daylighting System
PART 1 - GENERAL

1.01 SUMMARY

A. Documents affecting work of this Section include, but are not necessarily limited to, General Conditions/Provisions, Supplementary Conditions/Provisions, Division 1 Sections and/or other such Contract Documents as may be applicable.

B. Section Includes:

1. Skylight assembly.
2. Integral curb/security grille.
3. Reflective surfacing materials.
4. Interior diffusing lens.

1.03 DESCRIPTION

A. Product consists of a skylight/shaft assembly, including:

1. Extruded aluminum skylight frame, curb mounted.
2. Acrylic dome meeting requirements of UBC Section 2603.
3. Reflective surfacing material.
4. Interior diffusion lens.

1.04 SUBMITTALS

A. Submit under provisions of Division 1.

B. Shop Drawings: Provide shop drawings describing all components, adjacent construction, materials and processes.

1.05 COORDINATION

A. Coordinate work of this Section with other directly affected Sections, including, but not limited to:

1. Roofing.
2. Framing.
3. Gypsum board or plaster.
4. Painting.
5. Ceilings.

B. Work by others:

1. Roof opening.
2. Bracing of roof opening.
3. Roof base flashing.

1.06 PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS

A. System to provide for expansion and contraction within system components caused by a cycling temperature range of 170 F degrees without causing detrimental effects to system or components.

B. Design and size members to withstand dead loads and live loads caused by pressure or suction of wind acting vertically to a design pressure of 40 psf and a suction of 20 psf.

C. Wind Resistance: Capable of withstanding 90 mph wind for Exposure C, in accordance with UBC Table 16-F.

1.07 REGULATORY REQUIREMENTS

A. Skylight dome materials shall comply with CC1 or CC2 Classification for combustibility.

B. Comply with all applicable safety and scaffolding requirements under mandate by OSHA and local authorities having jurisdiction

1.08 QUALITY ASSURANCE

A. Manufacture: Demonstrate minimum 5 years experience in manufacture and fabrication of products specified herein.

B. Applicator: Authorized by manufacturer, with required experience to install products specified herein.

1.09 DELIVERY, STORAGE AND HANDLING

A. Deliver materials to site in manufacturers original packaging.

B. Store materials off ground. Protect against weather, condensation, damage, soiling or foreign substances. Immediately remove damaged material from site.

1.10 WARRANTY

A. Provide manufacturers written warranty, certifying that all products installed under this Section shall be warranted against faulty materials and construction defects or workmanship for a period of two years from Date of Substantial Completion. Any such defective materials or workmanship appearing within the Warranty period shall be satisfactorily repaired and replaced at no additional cost to the Owner.

1. Skylight Frame: Provide 10 year parts replacement Warranty against factory defects and workmanship after the specified Warranty period.

PART 2 - PRODUCTS

2.01 MANUFACTURERS

A. Approved Manufacturer: Natural Lighting Co., Inc., 6003 N 53rd Dr., Glendale, Az. 85301. Telephone: 623-463-0901. FAX: 623-463-0902. Products:

1. Skylight: Model: NL-SM 5252.
2. Curb/Security Grille: Model: NL-CSG 5252.

2.02 MATERIALS

A. Skylight Frames: ASTM B221; extruded aluminum, 0.093 inch thick, mitered and heliarc welded, 6063-T5 alloy, water-tight corners and construction, integral condensation gutters.

B. Skylight Dome: Clear acrylic, exterior layer 0.187 inch thickness.

C. Interior Diffusing Lens: One piece, molded, 50 percent or 70 percent transmittal acrylic.

D. Integral Curb/Security Grille: 18 gauge galvanized steel, 3 inch flanges, of sufficient height to be a minimum of 8 inches above finished roof, sized to accommodate skylight. Bars: 1/2 inch diameter tube steel, 6 inches oc in one direction.

2.03 ACCESSORIES

A. Anchorage Devices: Type recommended by manufacturer.

B. Sealant: One-component silicone, (non-petroleum based) meeting requirements of FS FS TT-S-1543.

PART 3 - EXECUTION
3.01 INSPECTION

A. Examine all related adjacent work, including structural framing, roof sheathing, flashings, roof curb construction, ceiling structure, electrical source and capacity, and that all components are properly prepared to receive the work of this Section.

B. Verify that no conditions exist which are detrimental to a satisfactory installation.

3.02 PREPARATION

A. Roof deck shall be swept clean and kept free of loose, foreign materials.

B. Commencement of work means acceptance of existing conditions, related work and surfaces.

3.03 INSTALLATION

A. Install in accordance with manufacturer’s instructions. Coordinate with installation of roofing system and related flashings. Provide weathertight installation.

B. Apply bituminous paint on metal surfaces of units in contact with cementatious materials and dissimilar metals.

C. Install all components in a watertight manner.

D. Comply with requirements of approved shop drawings and manufacturer’s recommendations.

E. Set units on specified curbs. Adequately seal to prevent water penetration through crevices. Utilize fasteners as recommended by the manufacturer for firm installation, sufficient to withstand horizontal forces as required herein.

F. Construct or otherwise apply reflective surfacing to light well walls.

3.04 CLEANING AND PROTECTION


A. Remove all traces of paint or other imperfections on surfaces.

B. Wash skylight domes inside and out with mild detergent solution. Never use petroleum based cleaners. Thoroughly rinse and follow with second cleaning with glass cleaner. Flush dust from exterior of dome before washing and take precautions to not scratch surfaces. Follow manufacturer’s instructions and recommendations.

C. Maintain glazing and reflective materials in clean condition during construction, to prevent damage by alkaline materials or other detrimental substances. Do not allow roofing bitumen or cement plaster to come into contact with glazing surfaces.

3.05 ADJUSTING AND CHECKING

A. Conduct water penetration test for all units. Rectify any leakage detected.

B. Start and check system. Adjust as necessary for optimum performance.
